Meet The Team

Dr. Michael Zimlich

Dr. Michael Zimlich was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama. He is a graduate of Murphy High School. Dr. Zimlich completed his undergraduate degree in Marine Science at Troy State University in 1998, where he completed graduate level research in parasitology. Upon completing his doctorate of veterinary medicine at Auburn University in 2002, he moved back to the Gulf Coast, marrying the former Jennifer Grimes and setting up a home on Fish River in Baldwin County. Dr. Zimlich, a certified USDA veterinarian, worked in a mixed animal practice, where his focus was on large animal work, completing many hours in the field, tending to animals ranging from cows and horses to llamas and pot bellied pigs. He transitioned to a small animal practice after the arrival of his daughter, Delaney. During this time, he concentrated his focus on feline medicine and dentistry, as well as pain management. He worked with Pfizer/Zoetis to instruct fellow veterinarians in the new and innovative medicines in pain management for their practice. Dr. Zimlich moved back to Mobile in 2014, where he now lives on Fowl River with his family and pets.

Dr. Alex Hughes

Dr. Alex Hughes grew up in Gulf Shores, AL and has family all over Baldwin County. She received her bachelor’s degree in biology (with a minor in music) at our very own University of South Alabama. During her five years there, she participated in the Jaguar Marching Band and even served as the Head Drum Major for the 2018-2019 seasons (Go Jags!). She then went on to veterinary school at Auburn University and completed her degree in 2024. She now resides in Fairhope, AL with her husband Timothy, and their four dogs: Cookie (pictured), German Shepherds, Riley and Chloe, and Beagle, Roman. She has always had a love for animals and is excited to offer services for all small animals and exotics, including – but not limited to – dogs, cats, rodents, rabbits, ferrets, reptiles, and birds. Her special interests include dentistry and family medicine. She is very happy to be back home to serve the Mobile community!
